Three Blake Songs First Edition solo voice, treble choir, harp Catalogue Number: HV027 Vocal score: £5.00 Harp part: £0.00 Examples: Extract courtesy members of The Oxford Singers directed by David Crown. "Like so many before me, I found William Blake's 'Songs of Innocence' both beautiful and
inspiring. These three settings require a well balanced two-part choir plus a confident solo voice which, experience
tells me, most established children's choirs have within their ranks. This solo line is, generally, quite independent of the
other voice parts — most notably in 'Little Lamb' where I have overlaid words from the Christian Eucharist: 'Lamb of
God who takest away the sins of the world...' which provides a prayerful descant to Blake's paschal tribute. By using a solo
harp I hope to create a 'magical' and child-like sound world within which children's voices can illuminate Blake's timeless
poetry."John Frith |
